Orsted provided renewable energy to around 15 million customers in 2022

In 2022, the primary energy consumption was 21,039 kWh per person globally¹. People use energy for heating, cooling, lighting, refrigeration, operating computers, appliances, and machinery, watching entertainment on TV, transportation, etc.^2,3. Energy is used for everything in society, from shopping malls to hospitals to educational institutions³. Industrial sectors like agriculture, mining, and construction also benefit from energy².

Orsted is a Danish energy firm involved in developing, constructing, and operating offshore and onshore wind farms, bioenergy plants, solar farms, and energy storage facilities^4,5. The company has not disclosed its total number of customers⁴. However, its offshore wind power supplies green energy to over 15 million people as of 2022⁴.

Orsted's power generation capacity in 2022 was 11,327 MW^6;p17. This power generation capacity includes 4,672 MW offshore wind capacity across Denmark, the UK, the US, the Netherlands, Taiwan, and Germany, 3,454 MW onshore wind capacity across the US, the UK, Ireland, France, and Germany, 661 MW Solar PV across the US, France and Germany, and 2,540 MW thermal plant capacity in Denmark^6;p17.

In 2022, Orsted generated 16.5 TWh of offshore wind power, 11.2 TWh of onshore wind power, 6 TWh of thermal power, and 6.4 TWh of thermal heat, bringing the total energy generated to 40.1 TWh^6;p4.

Orsted has a global market share of 25% in offshore wind energy generation⁵. In 2022, Orsted was ranked as the world’s most sustainable energy company on Corporate Knight’s Global 100 index for the fourth consecutive year⁸.

With continued investments in renewable energy since 2006, Orsted's renewable energy percentage grew from 17% in 2006 to 91% in 2022⁹. Orsted's offshore wind energy investments proved that in just six years, its newly built offshore wind energy became cheaper than dirty energy^10;p4-5.
