In 2023, Microsoft Windows, the operational system (OS) from Microsoft, was the most used OS around the world with a market share of 70%⁴. In fact, it has been the dominant OS since its release in 1985^4,5. In 2023, Microsoft Windows was used in about 1.6 billion (Bn) devices in more than 100 countries worldwide^12,11,5. The company’s Office 365 software applications are used by more than 1 million (Mn) companies globally while its AI-powered cloud services are used by 345 Mn paid users in 2022^6,7,8.

According to a survey, of the companies using Office 365, about 73% are small businesses (<50 employees), 19% are medium, and 9% are large-sized (>1000 employees)⁹. It is also used by a large cross-section of industries ranging from construction companies to machinery companies⁹.  Microsoft products are available at varied price points reaching users in both public and private sectors and all cross-sections of society¹⁰.
