I am curious to better understand how the value of 3.24 in this sentence was derived: "Each tonne of landfilled waste releases approximately 3.24 tCO2e, exacerbating climate change. " I could not find it in reference no. 4 and appreciate it if you could provide an explanation. Thank you.
Dear Sarah,
Thank you very much for your comment. According to the source, "2.88 metric tons CO2 equivalent/ton of waste recycled instead of landfilled". When converting for metric tons of waste (instead of the short tons used in the US), you get around 3.2 metric tonnes of CO2 for each metric tonne of waste.
